Injecting it into the distribution network means that this green gas can be used for exactly the same purposes as conventional natural gas, offering a sustainable alternative that is fully compatible with current infrastructures.<\/p><p>Thanks to its renewable origin, biomethane contributes directly to reducing CO\u2082 emissions, boosting the circular economy and strengthening energy independence through an indigenous, manageable and readily available source. Its integration into the gas grid makes biomethane a real and mature solution, capable of accelerating the decarbonisation of homes, businesses and industries.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Nedgia boosts renewable gas in Spain with 53% more biomethane being transported through its networks<\/h2><p>Nedgia continues to consolidate its role as a benchmark in promoting renewable gas in Spain. During 2025, our networks channelled more than <strong>170 GWh of biomethane<\/strong>, which represents an <strong>increase of 53%<\/strong> compared to the previous year and confirms the sustained evolution of green gas as a key energy vector for a competitive and efficient energy transition.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Biomethane: an immediate solution to decarbonise key sectors<\/h2><p>The integration of biomethane into distribution networks allows immediate progress in the decarbonisation of sectors that are difficult to electrify, such as <strong>industry<\/strong> or <strong>heavy transport<\/strong>, serving as a natural complement to other renewable energies within an integrated technological model.<\/p><p>This growth has been possible thanks to the increasing maturity of technology and the progressive connection of new production plants. <strong>Fourteen facilities<\/strong> currently inject biomethane into our infrastructures, which has made it possible to supply renewable energy equivalent to the annual consumption of <strong>more than 33,000 households<\/strong> and to avoid the emission of <strong>34,000 tonnes of CO\u2082<\/strong> over the last year.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An expanding project portfolio<\/h2><p>The trend will continue to rise in the coming months. We currently have <strong>98 projects with signed contracts<\/strong> which, once operational, could provide more than <strong>5.8 TWh\/year<\/strong> of renewable gas, equivalent to the annual consumption of <strong>1.1 million households<\/strong>. Of these, <strong>14 facilities<\/strong> expect to start injecting biomethane into the grid in 2026.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">An infrastructure ready for the energy future<\/h2><p>With more than <strong>60,000 kilometres of network<\/strong> and presence in <strong>1,222 municipalities<\/strong>, Nedgia has a robust infrastructure capable of transporting renewable gas immediately to <strong>more than 5.5 million supply points<\/strong>. This places us in a strategic position to accompany households, companies and industries in their decarbonisation process.<\/p><h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Renewable gas, a growing reality<\/h2><p>The positive end to the year confirms that biomethane is already a <strong>current reality<\/strong>, with a direct impact on the reduction of emissions and transformation of the Spanish energy system. However, its roll-out requires us to promote new mechanisms to accelerate its growth, following the path of other European countries.<\/p><p>According to data from Sedigas, Spain has the capacity to produce up to <strong>163 TWh<\/strong> of biomethane per year, sufficient to cover <strong>100% of residential and commercial demand<\/strong> in the country.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Biomethane is a renewable gas produced by treating different types of organic waste.
