Nedgia continues to take firm steps to promote more sustainable energy solutions and bring renewable gas —especially biomethane— to homes, businesses and municipalities in our country. We have just strengthened our partnership with Portugal’s leading gas distributor Floene by signing a letter of intent to work together on the development of green gas in Europe.
The signing took place in Madrid on 5 March at the Biomethane Connect Europe (BCE) meeting, one of the leading events on the continent to discuss the future of biomethane and its key role in the energy transition. There, Nedgia CEO Raúl Suárez and Gabriel Sousa, CEO of Floene, formalised an agreement that reinforces the commitment of both companies to clean, safe and environmentally friendly energy.
A joint push to accelerate biomethane development
The agreement comes in a European context where demand for renewable energy and low-carbon solutions is growing steadily. Biomethane has established itself as one of the renewable gases with the greatest potential to reduce emissions, improve security of supply and promote an energy model based on the circular economy.
With this letter of intent, Nedgia and Floene establish a strategic cooperation framework that will accelerate the development of biomethane in both Spain and Portugal. The most important lines of work include:

Both companies will work together to promote a more favourable regulatory framework to facilitate the injection of green gas into distribution networks. - Identifying barriers and solutions for renewable gas injection
The agreement includes the analysis of technical, administrative and regulatory challenges in order to propose practical measures to speed up biomethane rollout. - Exchanging good practices
Nedgia and Floene will regularly share experiences in areas such as communication, institutional relations, digitalisation and market models. - Improving the customer experience
One of the key objectives is to advance in tools, processes and solutions that allow us to offer a more efficient, innovative service adapted to consumer needs. - Developing future-proof networks
Both distributors will strengthen their collaboration to evolve towards more secure, resilient, efficient and digitalised networks, capable of transporting increasing volumes of renewable gases. - Boosting the entire green gas value chain
Distributors play a fundamental role in connecting biomethane production with final consumption, making it easier for this renewable gas to reach homes, industries and municipalities.
A partnership with a European vision
The partnership between Nedgia and Floene does not only have an impact at Iberian level. It is also an important step towards consolidating a shared vision at European level, based on the exchange of know-how, continuous innovation and cooperation between distribution network operators.
Both companies will work with coordinated mechanisms —such as technical sessions, working groups and joint analysis— to accelerate team learning and multiply the impact of their initiatives.
