- The agreement consolidates a joint commitment to green gas and efficient boilers as key solutions for the decarbonisation of households.
Nedgia, the leading Naturgy group gas distributor in Spain, and the Association of Manufacturers of Generators and Heat Emitters (FEGECA) have renewed their partnership agreement to further advance a fair, efficient and accessible energy transition for the residential sector.
With this renewal, both organisations consolidate the line of work initiated in previous years and reinforce their joint commitment to the dissemination of green gas, as well as to the promotion of efficient equipment and gas-based technical solutions that contribute to the decarbonisation of households without sacrificing comfort and competitiveness.
As part of the agreement, the two entities intend to strengthen their commitment to professional development in the energy, air conditioning and heating, and domestic hot water services sectors, with the aim of highlighting the role of efficient boilers and green gas as solutions that are already available and easy to implement.
Marta de Pablos, Nedgia‘s Acquisition Director, said: "the renewal of this agreement reinforces our commitment to green gas as a key energy vector to achieve decarbonisation targets in the residential sector”. She also stressed that "biomethane is a very efficient alternative, both for its cost and its ease of implementation, to advance towards the objectives of decarbonising society".
Sonia Pomar, General Director of FEGECA, has underlined that "this renewal shows the harmony between both entities and the shared commitment to a fair energy transition, which takes into account the reality of housing stock, industry, sector professionals and the consumer. A commitment to continue working to promote innovative and sustainable solutions towards decarbonisation while generating great value for society".
Biomethane, a strategic partner for decarbonisation
Biomethane is emerging as one of the great solutions for efficiently advancing the energy transition as it has similar qualities to natural gas and can be distributed through the existing gas infrastructure without undertaking major investments; it can also be used in industries, businesses and homes as its use is compatible with domestic boilers.
Another of the great advantages of this renewable gas is the boost to rural environments and the circular economy. As it is obtained from waste treatment, biomethane contributes to the decarbonisation of the primary sector and helps it to achieve emission reduction and recycling targets. In addition, a digestate is derived from its production that can be used to produce organic fertilisers, thus completing the cycle of the circular economy.
The gas network plays a strategic role in rolling out renewable gases. Nedgia currently has eight biomethane generation facilities connected to its network, with a combined injection capacity of more than 200 GWh/year. In addition to the plants already operating and injecting renewable gas into the distribution network, Nedgia has closed contracts for a further 60 facilities to feed their production into the network, with an injection capacity of 3TWh, and is in negotiations with the developers of a further 80, which will add more than 5 TWh of additional renewable gas generation.
