Actions on existing connections

These actions are the main ones on existing connections for repairs or modifications in Community Receiver Installations (CRIs). For example, due to works in the building, repair for stem leakage or closing and reopening of the connection.

Main actions involved in connections

Connection of new stem and/or replacement of service valve

Renewal of the connection due to replacement, repair or total or partial displacement of the CRI and which includes the placement of a new stem that must be connected to the network. This new stem must be less than 50 cm away cm from the existing one, otherwise it will be considered a new connection construction plus the cancelling of the existing one.

The stem is the transition or connection element that eases transit from the buried section to the aerial section of the receiving installation, or vice versa.

Construction of new service connection

Connection action for the construction of a new connection due to the installation of a new IRC stem more than 50 cm from the existing one, this action will have to be combined with the action to cancel the existing connection.

The service connection is the part of the gas pipeline located between the distribution network and the supply valve (including the latter). The connection is not part of the consumer installation.

Cancelling of existing connection

Connection to eliminate the distributor installation once the supply has ceased. The existing connection from the network or the closest part to the connection valve will be cancelled.

Reopening of connection due to programmed closure

Action to close the connection to undertake a repair or modification of the CRI that does not modify the stem, or other reasons that may be necessary, and its subsequent reopening and inspection of the installation. The day and time of opening and closure should be programmed.

Glossary of terms
See terms
  • Shared receiving installation (IRC): A series of conduits and accessories between the supply valve (excluded) and the device connection valves (included), excluding the connections leading to the devices.
  • Individual receiving installation (IRI): A series of conduits and accessories between, as appropriate: the user valve (in the case of a shared installation); or the supply or building valve (when supplying a single user).
  • Certificate: Document issued by an authorised installation company necessary in case of modification. Modification is considered to be the receiving installation of the gas installation having a change of materials or layout in sections of length greater than 1 metre, as well as any expansion of consumption or replacement of appliances by other appliances of different characteristics. It must be given to the Inspector at the moment when the supply is reopened, with regard to RD919/2006 and Section 5 of ITC-ICG-07.
  • Leak test: A check to ensure no leaks in the individual or shared installation. If, at the time of reopening the gas supply, the installation does not comply with Regulations or a leak is detected in the installation, the service cannot be restored.
