Helping make homes ready for green gas

We continue to make progress in bringing green gas to more homes. As part of these efforts, we have signed a partnership agreement with Metrovacesa, one of Spain’s leading property developers, to promote the installation of hybrid energy solutions designed to accommodate green gas in new residential developments.

This initiative has given rise to the concept of the “Green Gas-Ready Building”, which will enable new homes to be equipped with supply points capable of delivering both natural gas and green gas. This means that owners’ associations will be able to benefit from locally produced renewable energy in the future without having to modify their existing installations.

Biomethane, also known as green gas, is produced from organic waste and is one of the key solutions for decarbonising homes. As it can be distributed through existing gas networks, it can reduce emissions while providing the same functionality, performance and comfort currently offered by natural gas.

In the first phase, the agreement covers more than 430 homes across four residential developments: Residencial Alyssa and Residencial Zinnia in Los Cerros (Madrid), and Residencial Torre Aura and Residencial Torre Cenit in San Pedro de Visma (A Coruña). Both companies also plan to gradually expand their partnership to include additional developments and a greater number of homes equipped to use green gas.

These hybrid energy solutions offer significant benefits for future residents, combining comfort and energy efficiency with lower costs compared with other energy alternatives. They also allow homes being built today to accommodate renewable gases and meet the energy needs of the future.

As part of the agreement, we at Nedgia will provide information on gas network connection options for Metrovacesa’s developments, together with technical, regulatory and technological advice. We will also collaborate on preliminary studies and specific gas projects and will be involved in overseeing and designing gas installations within the buildings.

This partnership goes to show the vital role played by distribution networks in enabling an efficient, competitive and accessible energy transition. It also highlights the importance of collaboration between leading companies from different sectors in championing sustainable solutions that help achieve decarbonisation targets.

In the words of Marta de Pablos, Head of Growth at Nedgia: “Green gas offers an opportunity to decarbonise homes while maintaining the quality of supply and delivering competitive energy alternatives.”

Through this agreement, we aim to make more homes ready to use renewable energy sources such as green gas, helping to create more sustainable, energy-efficient homes that are fit for the future.
