Nedgia and Italgas, Italy’s leading gas distributor, have signed a partnership agreement to share knowledge and develop innovative solutions that will contribute to the evolution of gas networks, driving the integration of renewable gases and supporting the energy transition.
Transforming the energy system requires infrastructure that is increasingly efficient, resilient and capable of incorporating new energy solutions. To this end, Nedgia and Italgas have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that strengthens cooperation between the two companies with a view to advancing the development of the gas distribution networks of the future.
The agreement establishes a framework for collaboration to share experiences, knowledge and good practices between two of the leading European operators in the sector. The initiative will focus on strategic areas such as integrating renewable gases into existing networks, infrastructure digitalisation, applying artificial intelligence-based technologies, sustainability and innovation.
Networks ready for the energy transition
Gas distribution networks play a key role in the transition to a more sustainable energy model. Thanks to their ability to transport renewable gases, such as biomethane, these infrastructure systems help to reduce emissions and make use of locally sourced energy resources.
The partnership between Nedgia and Italgas will enable further progress to be made on solutions that facilitate the integration of these renewable gases into existing networks, promoting more efficient and sustainable energy management.
Innovation at the service of our customers
As well as boosting decarbonisation, the agreement will contribute to the development of more digital and smart networks capable of delivering greater operational efficiency, strengthening security of supply and addressing the energy challenges of the coming years.
According to Raúl Suárez, CEO of Nedgia:
“This agreement provides a highly valuable framework for strengthening the exchange of knowledge, innovation and cooperation between two of Europe’s leading gas distribution operators. Gas networks play a crucial role in the energy transition, particularly by facilitating the integration of renewable gases such as biomethane into existing infrastructure. Together with Italgas, we want to accelerate solutions that contribute to decarbonisation and a more sustainable, secure and efficient European energy system.”
Through this partnership, Nedgia reaffirms its commitment to innovation and to developing energy infrastructure that is ready to meet the challenges of the future, delivering value to customers and contributing to an efficient and sustainable energy transition.
