Nedgia highlights the role of networks in promoting green gas and decarbonisation at AGROGENERA

Nedgia took part in AGROGENERA 2026, one of the leading events dedicated to agro-energy and renewable gases, where it highlighted the vital role of distribution networks in driving the development of green gas –a renewable energy source produced from organic waste– and bringing it to households, businesses and industries.

Held on 15 September in Madrid, the event gathered around 200 professionals from the energy, agriculture and livestock, industrial and administrative sectors to discuss how to transform the potential of agro-energy into viable projects that generate value for local areas and contribute to the energy transition.

A network ready to deliver more green gas to consumers

Vicente Gramuntell, Nedgia’s Director of Business Development and Transformation, took part in the round-table discussion on energy solutions for rural areas, where he highlighted the importance of having infrastructure capable of integrating ever-increasing levels of green gas production.

Nedgia currently has more than 100 connection contracts for green gas production facilities, representing an injection capacity of 6.5 TWh per year. This renewable energy generation would be enough to meet the energy consumption of more than one million households, helping to reduce emissions and move towards a more sustainable energy model.

Seventeen facilities are already feeding green gas into Nedgia’s distribution network, bringing this renewable energy to consumers in seven autonomous regions without the need to make any changes to their gas installations or equipment.

The importance of planning the location of new plants carefully was also highlighted during the debate. In addition to proximity to the waste that serves as raw material, the capacity to connect to and feed into the grid is a key factor in ensuring the technical and economic viability of the projects.

Grids: key to accelerating the energy transition

During the event, participants discussed some of the challenges that still need to be overcome in order to promote new green gas projects in Spain. These include the need to streamline administrative procedures and move towards a stable, transparent regulatory framework that provides long-term security and confidence.

In this context, distribution networks play a vital role in connecting production centres with consumption points, ensuring that green gas reaches where it is needed efficiently.

An opportunity for rural areas and the circular economy

The participants agreed that green gas is a great opportunity to make use of organic waste and convert it into renewable energy, thereby promoting the circular economy, reducing emissions and creating new opportunities for economic development in rural areas.

Its development not only contributes to progress towards a more sustainable energy future, but also helps to strengthen the country’s energy independence and boost economic activity in the regions where these renewable resources are produced.

Nedgia’s participation in AGROGENERA 2026 –an event it also sponsored– reinforces its commitment to promoting renewable gases and developing infrastructure that will enable increasingly sustainable energy to be supplied to homes, businesses and industries.
