Gas Distributors for Sustainability (GD4S), the association that represents Europe’s leading gas distribution companies, announced the appointment of a new President and Vice-President at its recent General Assembly held in London. In this new term, Gabriel Sousa, CEO of Floene, has taken over as President of the organisation, while Raúl Suárez, CEO of Nedgia, has been appointed Vice-President.
This appointment strengthens Nedgia’s leading position and presence in the European energy sector and gives the company a prominent role in forums that determine the strategic direction of the sector. GD4S is actively working to highlight the role of gas distribution networks as a key element in the energy transition, promoting solutions that contribute to a more sustainable, safer and more efficient energy system.
In particular, the association promotes the integration of renewable gases such as biomethane into existing infrastructures, as well as a more efficient and optimised use of distribution networks. These initiatives help us progress towards decarbonisation by making use of existing networks, delivering benefits for both consumers and the energy system as a whole.
The new President and Vice-President of GD4S are beginning their mandate at a particularly significant time for the European energy sector, one marked by the challenges associated with reducing emissions, supply security and energy competitiveness. In this context, a coordinated vision of the different energy carriers is essential.
As Raúl Suárez, Vice-President of GD4S and CEO of Nedgia, pointed out, the energy transition in Europe requires pragmatic solutions and greater coordination between gas and electricity networks, drawing on the strengths of each to provide effective responses to current challenges. He also emphasised the importance of moving towards a global and integrated vision of the energy system, in which distribution networks play an essential role.
GD4S also acknowledged the work of the outgoing executive team, led by Laurence Poirier-Dietz and Jeroen Sanders, whose efforts helped strengthen the role of gas distribution networks in Europe and raise awareness of their contribution to the energy transformation process.
This appointment strengthens Nedgia’s commitment to the development of green gas, innovation and collaboration at the European level, working alongside other industry players towards a more sustainable and competitive energy model that is aligned with the needs of customers and local communities.
