Nedgia held a workshop in A Coruña alongside Floene, Portugal’s leading gas distributor, with the aim of sharing knowledge and best practice on the future of gas distribution and the development of green gas.
This initiative is part of the partnership between the two companies aimed at developing more sustainable and efficient energy solutions. The Nedgia and Floene teams are working together in a series of meetings to analyse the challenges and opportunities facing the energy sector, with a particular focus on the role that gas infrastructure will play in the energy transition.
During the event, professionals from both companies discussed issues relating to developments in the energy market, innovation, the digitalisation of networks and the adoption of new technologies. They also shared their experiences related to operational management, service quality and preparing the infrastructure to gradually integrate more renewable gases.
One of the highlights was the visit to the Bens Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), a pioneering facility in green gas production. There, the group saw first hand how the biogas produced during wastewater treatment is converted into biomethane, a green gas with the same properties as natural gas.
Some of this biomethane or green gas is already being fed into the distribution network, making it possible to use existing infrastructure to supply homes and businesses with renewable, locally sourced energy. The plant has the capacity to produce 5 GWh of biomethane per year, enough to supply approximately 980 homes and avoid around 910 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year.
The partnership between Nedgia and Floene helps promote the exchange of knowledge and accelerate the development of solutions that will help us move towards a more sustainable energy model. Furthermore, it highlights the important role that distribution networks can play in facilitating the supply of green gas to consumers and supporting the decarbonisation of the economy.
