Nedgia highlights the role of gas in the energy transition at a conference in the Spanish Parliament

On 23 April, the Parliament was the venue for a conference organised by Sedigas, the Spanish Gas Association, which analysed the role played by gas and its infrastructures in the present and future of the energy system. The meeting stressed the importance of having solid gas networks that are ready to guarantee supply, reinforce energy security and support the country’s industrial activity.

The conference brought together institutional representatives, regulators and professionals from the sector at a key moment marked by the definition of the new regulatory framework for the 2027-2032 period and by progress towards an increasingly sustainable and balanced energy model.

In this context, Nedgia participated actively with Alberto González Santos, Director of Legal and Regulatory Services, who took part in a round table discussion with representatives of Enagás and Bahía de Bizkaia Gas, moderated by Sedigas. Issues of particular relevance to natural gas customers were addressed during the debate, such as the contribution of gas infrastructures to energy system stability and their capacity to incorporate renewable gases like biomethane or, in the future, hydrogen.

During his speech, Alberto González Santos emphasised that gas distribution networks are already prepared to face current and future energy challenges. "At Nedgia, we are already working on the networks of the future: more digital, flexible and capillary networks, capable of securing supply and advancing decarbonisation," he said.

He also underlined the importance of having the right regulatory framework in place to allow for further investment and infrastructure evolution. In this sense, he recalled that the real objective is clear: to advance in efficient decarbonisation of homes, businesses and industries, without renouncing security of supply. Nedgia is analysing proposed remuneration for the coming years, which is assessed positively in its general approach, although it is considered necessary to provide it with sufficient resources to face current and future challenges with guarantees.

The conference served to highlight the need for a stable and predictable regulatory environment that allows for the continued development of resilient energy infrastructures, capable of integrating new solutions and accompanying customers and companies in the energy transition process.

By participating in these forums, Nedgia reaffirms its commitment to a safe, efficient and sustainable energy system, in which gas networks continue to play a key role in providing real, accessible and future-proof solutions for people and society.
